Some if not all relationships are built to last. Others break down or drift apart over time. But new research is demonstrating that the longer you stay together, the less likely you are to break up.
While it may seem that couples who stay long time together are at more risk of splitting up – losing sparks, drifting away, having increasing arguments, etc. – a new study has shown that the opposite is true.
There also seems to be a link between marriage and longevity, with married couples more likely to stay together than their unmarried counterparts.
This may be because marriage is a binder for couples (and because there are greater hurdles to ending a marriage than an unmarried relationship), or it may just be that couples who are less likely to split up are more likely to choose to get married in the first place. On another note, most married couples stay together binding to the oath even if they’re not happy, some of the contributing factor to a long-lasting marriage today may include, having one or more offspring together, love that develops rapidly as the time passes on.
Single relationships in the other hand has more vulnerabilities when compared to married relationships.
Time does seem to make it more likely that two people will stay together, and it’s a quick process.
Research suggests that once a relationship survives the first year, it becomes dramatically less likely to end, and continues to get more resilient over the next couple of years.
A relationship is a fickle thing. One day you can sit next to your significant other and think that it’ll last forever and then the next day one of you is dodging fragile (and often expensive) objects being hurled at your skull. Being happy is one thing, but knowing you have a solid, lasting relationship is something else entirely. Here are some signs that you’re in a relationship that may go somewhere.
- You help each other
- You’re on the same page
- You communicate
- You can both admit it when you screw up
- You don’t make “those mistakes” and you don’t want to
- You and your partner are in control of your relationship
Just to mention a few,
At the end of the day, everyone’s relationship is unique. We’ve tried to identify the base line stuff but the fact is that people get along in the weirdest ways so even these may not always apply to you. If you can make it work, then you know how to do it!
